Itinerary
- 212r Mossman Gorge Rd, Mossman Gorge QLD 4873, Australia
- 1A "must do" for every visitor to Mossman Gorge are the Ngadiku Dreamtime Walks, conducted by the local Indigenous people. Ngadiku (Nar-di-gul) means stories and legends from a long time ago in local Kuku Yalanji language. This Mossman Gorge tour takes visitors on a guided walk along private, gentle tracks, visiting special places and culturally significant sites, past traditional bark shelters and over meandering cool rainforest streams. Dreamtime Gorge Walk You are welcomed with a traditional ‘smoking’ ceremony that cleanses and wards off bad spirits. The walk then meanders through stunning rainforest and takes in traditional huts or humpies. Your experienced interpretive Indigenous guide demonstrates traditional plant use, identify bush food sources and provide an enchanting narrative of the rainforest and their special relationship with this unique tropical environment. Your guide demonstrates traditions like making bush soaps and ochre painting. At the end of the tour enjoy traditional bush tea and damper.

Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- tracyh7160 contributionsGreat walkWould call it good to better fitness needed to do the whole2.5km walk. Rocky path and steep in places. But you can do variations so if needed not the whole loop. People were swimming in safe spots but risks are clearly outlined It does cost a bit ..as a shuttle bus takes you from vistor centre to the start of the walk. Pretty all the way with the rainforest fauna and the river tumbling along. Wear good walking shoes take water.Written July 15, 2025
- 970jeremyb0 contributionsMossman Gorge must do…..Simply a must do when staying in Port Douglas…..do the walk first so you’re nice and hot before swimming carefully in the colder waters…..so refreshing and relaxing. 👍👍Written September 2, 2024
- LiddlePaddy0 contributionsbeyond tourism into Dreamtime...Mossman George is not just the best coffee shop around. It has Aboriginal artwork for sale and cultural experiences as well as being a safe place to swim in a beautiful mountain stream. We did the Dreamtime walk with our young guide, Ben, who was refreshingly rich in cultural knowledge and generous in his fresh approach to sharing with us Gubbas. The walk took us past secret mens' place and womens' ritual and ochre and many other features. Really showed us culture was alive and in safe hands. We came back to the Gorge four times for coffee, sandwiches, and repeat walks in the tropical forest. Aboriginal people everywhere running this show, just the best!Written August 18, 2024
- A1421YJanaf0 contributionsGreat walk in natureI really enjoyed walking in the forest and seeing people having fun, swimming in the beautiful clear water. There are short and longer walks and benches for resting on some parts of the way.Written August 1, 2024

- tiger_n_ox0 contributionsPeaceful rainforest walksWe decided to wander ourselves along the walks after paying for the bus. Did the Rex creek bridge walk, Baral Marrjanga walk and rainforest circuit track which was peaceful and beautiful. Lots of people swimming despite the numerous signs of danger. Amazing to see nature in all its glory. Few infuriation signs along the way taught us about the rainforest. Overall a great morningWritten July 14, 2024
- livwanders0 contributionsA beautiful sunshiney dipMosman gorge is an absolute dream. Wow. So beautiful. We grabbed some snacks from the cafe, kangaroo sausage rolls to be precise and headed out. We got the bus to the gorge, had a wander through the rainforest then found a quiet swimming spot amongst the white rocks and spent a beautiful couple of hours dipping and sunbathing. The water was beautifully clear and so refreshing. This was one of my favourite days, super simple but so memorable.Written March 14, 2024

- Mandy B0 contributionsBeautiful PlaceWhat a gorgeous place. The bus which takes you directly to the trails is very welcome in the heat and well worth the payment. We walked the main trails, and a few went a bit further but the oppressive heat overcame us all in the end and we were happy to do the easy bits. We hired a car as we wanted to go to Daintree Village as well and this was great as it meant we could be as early as we wanted to keep out of the midday temperatures. Take plenty of water and mosquito spray and you'll have a great experience. Its a fairly easy trail and all except those with severe difficulties should manage.Written December 20, 2022
- astrid_caddeo0 contributionsSo prettyWe had a quick walk through the gorge as it was nearing closing time but it's definitely a place to visit and spend more time at.Written December 14, 2022

- DeneroseAU0 contributionsBeautiful but allow a day if you canWe went here after an already full morning and should have saved it or done it first. The visitor centre is run in conjunction with the traditional custodians of the land (the local indigenous people) and the love and attention to country really shows in these walks and the land maintenance we saw. An amazing spot and well worth a visit. Please respect the traditional people of this place who do not want tourists walking through their homes, and take the shuttle bus (it’s not expensive and it had aircon!).Written November 13, 2022
- annando360 contributionsBeautiful scenery but very crowded!Stunning gorge but I wasn’t quite ready for the number of people there and as this is a natural gorge it just didn’t feel equipped to cope with that. The circular walk was much better and it was easy to follow the path. We did find an extremely quiet creek right at the end of this that was much more refreshing than the main gorge and had it totally to ourselves..Written November 7, 2022

While I loved going walkabout with our aboriginal guide & hearing about the traditional uses for the plants etc, I was really disappointed about a couple of things. Firstly our 11am tour started at 11.20am, and then ran way over the 1.5 hours advertised. It was well after 1pm when it finished. I had planned my shuttle pickup for 2pm and started to panic that I wasn’t going to make it back. And secondly, the main reason I went out there was to see the national park/river at Mossman Gorge. I had assumed that there would be a stop off there for photos as part of the tour, but it went nowhere near it. I really think people should be told that up front - as this nearly ruined my whole day. They do stop at the gorge after the walkabout for those who want to get off and explore. But I had just twenty minutes - which meant I literally had to run out, snap a few photos and run back to get the centre shuttle back in time for my own shuttle back to town. I almost missed the main event! Also, the map showed toilets at the gorge, but I never saw any. So be prepared for a few hours with no toilet stop. My advice is to go and do the self-guided walk, and make sure you build in plenty of time if you want to enjoy it at a peaceful pace.

My 10-year-old Grandson & I did the 2-hour tour with "Tom" - our wonderful indigenous tour guide - older bloke (younger than me!) - knowledgeable, sense of humour & a little theatric ("be on the lookout for man-killing Cassowaries, & if you see one, climb up a tree - but not mine as I'll already be up one!"). Our Grandson hung on every word, especially the 10 minute session at a HUGE Cassowary poo, followed by Tom's demonstration of the Cassowary squat! The young bloke enjoyed it so much, he was never further than a metre from Tom to make sure he heard every word! We loved being under the stunning rainforest canopy for most of the walk, & the cuppa & damper were a nice finish. The swim after in the Gorge capped off a wonderful afternoon.

A must do, we loved it. We learnt so much from Levi, he was brilliant. It was a privilege to learn about Kuku Yalanji culture on Kuku Yalanji Country. We were incredibly lucky to see a cassowary which is something I’ll never ever forget. We had an incredibly tight budget for our trip and this was something I’d do again without hesitation, it’s truely worth it.

Extraordinary experience. The guide, Jared, did an amazing job of sharing a glimpse of the world in which the Yalanji people live. I could feel the spiritual dimension of this walk right away and was enthralled in it. At the same time, the explanations which he gave about the botanical, the medicine, the wildlife and so many other aspects of the lives of first nation people were extremely interesting. To walk through his native land, to touch and feel the rocks and plants (those which you may touch, of course) gave both as much of a physical, mental and spiritual lesson as you can get during such a comparably short time.

The tour was fascinating and the rainforest was breathtaking. Our guide, Jarrod was such a lovely, generous man who shared stories of his family, ancestors, and Connection to Country through his life lived as a member of the Yalanji clan in Mossman. We loved listening to his stories and learning about the mind blowing history of the 180 million year old Daintree. I particularly loved his story about how he and his brother outsmarted a taipan snake when they were just 6 and 7 years old! Not to be missed!

Was originally in two minds about this trip but I ended up loving the whole 2 hours. Our guide Trevayne was a real star and clearly loved sharing his knowledge and humor. The walk itself was a great mix of the spiritual, the practical and the scientific. We had walked in the national park the previous day but returning with Trevayne made the bush really come to life. Would highly recommend the experience.

Very worthwhile trip. Our guide was excellent. The history, the culture, the nature were all well told by our friendly guide. So much parallels to USA native American culture and ceremonies. Explained in both historical and current ways of indigenous folks. The forest plants diversity along with how historically the people used various plants etc. Very much enjoyed our visit and would recommend it.
