Neighborhood: Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognizable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognized architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.

- nswmikeBeerwah, Australia31 contributionsThis is such a remarkable building, definitely belongs on a must do list. Bookings are easy online, tickets can be purchased at the building but choice may be limited. We opted for a gold ticket, which cost more but gave access to more areas of the building and included use of a tablet with a visual depiction of furniture. Apart from one room, the building is devoid of furniture. Those who chose a cheaper ticket carried an audio description. The reason for lack of furniture is this building is so popular, there’s no room for it considering the number of people moving around. Other reviews have mentioned this, and tours are timed to try and avoid overcrowding but it doesn’t take long before people are manoeuvring around each other. If you can afford a gold ticket, there is a bit of relief from the crowd in the areas where only that ticket allows access. We chose a 9.00am start, which gave us a head start on other ticket holders because we entered first. After then, there will always be a preceding tour to mingle with. Is it worth it? Absolutely, the architect Gaudi was given a clean slate by the family who owned the building and his vision was extraordinary.Review of: Casa BatllóVisited May 2025Traveled as a coupleWritten May 7, 2025
- Julia1972Moscow, Russia1,950 contributionsDom Baglio, aka Batllo, aka Dom Bones, aka... is one of Gaudí's later and most mature works, listed by UNESCO. "Tear everything down, Maestro Gaudí, and build me something like that!" Thus, thanks to the textile tycoon Joseph Ballot, who purchased a house standing on the site at the time, a bizarre building appeared. The old house, by the way, Gaudí did not demolish, but completely rebuilt - changed the facade, redesigned the interior, added an attic, expanded the patio and made the house a real work of art. In addition, he made engineering improvements to the ventilation system, ergonomics, in general, in his usual manner made the house not only unique visually, but also comfortable for living. Who sees what to the appearance of the house – who sees bones and skulls, who sees the guts of monsters, who see scales, eyes or dragons, for some it is a multifaceted underwater world, and for some they marvel at Venetian masks. As always, the design lacks straight lines - a characteristic feature of all Gaudí's work. "Nature does not tolerate right angles." Smooth, round, fluid shapes. All interior objects without corners – windows, chandeliers, doors, mirrors – whatever. There are no enclosed spaces: each room flows to the next. The Baglio house ceased to belong to the Baglio family in the 1950s. After a change of ownership, starting in the 90s it became the property of the Bernat family, which completely restored the structure. And since 1995, the chup-chup heirs of Enrique Bernat (yes, yes, he is the famous inventor of lolipop) have opened the doors of the house to visits, and it should be said that they cut a lot of money on this, considering the price of the ticket (35 euros) and the number of tourists visiting daily. The house is beautiful, unusual, mesmerizing, of course, but the crowd, like a caterpillar crawling from the street, through the house and up the stairs, nullifies all the magic. I don't know how many tickets are sold for each hour-long session, but you walk around the house in a tight line with other sufferers shoulder to shoulder. In that respect, Casa Vicenza was much more pleasant. Although, of course, one visit to Ballo is definitely necessary. Yeah, don't be lazy waiting for the Gaudi Dreams immersion show to start on the way out, down the stairs. I don't know how often it happens, but it's something fascinating!Review of: Casa BatllóVisited April 2024Traveled soloWritten October 13, 2024
- Gustavo WoltmannLondon, United Kingdom85 contributionsVisiting Casa Batlló with my family was an unforgettable experience that transported us into the artistic brilliance of Antoni Gaudí. Located in the heart of Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona, this architectural masterpiece is more than just a building—it’s a dreamlike journey through colors, curves, and creativity. Arrival & First Impressions From the moment we arrived, the unique façade of Casa Batlló caught our attention. Its wavy lines, colorful mosaics, and dragon-like roof made it feel like something out of a fairytale. The queue was well-organized, and the pre-booked tickets helped us avoid long waiting times. The staff was friendly and provided smart guides (Augmented Reality tablets), which kept both adults and kids engaged. Exploring the Interior The moment we stepped inside, we were amazed by the organic shapes, stained glass windows, and wooden doors that seemed alive with movement. The main hall had a ceiling that swirled like an ocean wave, and the staircase resembled a spine, adding to the underwater theme of the house. The Noble Floor: The former residence of the Batlló family, with its breathtaking large windows overlooking Passeig de Gràcia. The natural light and sea-inspired details made this room a favorite for photos. The Light Well: A central courtyard covered in blue ceramic tiles that change in shade as they go higher. This gave us a magical sense of depth and tranquility. The Attic: White, ribbed archways that looked like the inside of a whale’s ribcage. It was both eerie and beautiful. The Roof Terrace: This was the highlight of our visit! The dragon’s back-shaped roof with colorful scales and the chimneys with twisted shapes made us feel like we were in a surreal world. Family-Friendly Aspects Casa Batlló is a great place for families. The interactive audio guide with augmented reality animations kept the kids entertained, and the playful architecture sparked their imagination. The stairs and narrow pathways might be tricky for very young children or strollers, but there was an elevator available. Final Thoughts Our visit to Casa Batlló was nothing short of magical. It’s a must-see in Barcelona, whether you love architecture, history, or simply want to experience something extraordinary. The attention to detail, artistic vision, and immersive experience make it one of Gaudí’s finest works. If you’re traveling with family, be prepared to take many photos, enjoy an artistic adventure, and leave with lasting memories! Would I visit again? Absolutely!Review of: Casa BatllóVisited October 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 9, 2025
- Alina LTel Aviv, Israel203 contributionsDescribing Barcelona, I finally got to its chief wizard and magician, the architect Antonio Gaudí. It would be hard to imagine Barcelona today without his fantastic creations. Casa Batlló, also known as the House of Bones, is located at Passeig de Gràcia, 43 in the Eixample district. This surreal building immediately attracts attention for its extreme unusualness. It is from this house that Gaudí is believed to have begun to bring his psychedelic vision to life, eventually turning it into his incredible style. There is a belief, (one of many) that the main facade of the building is an interpretation of the victory of the patron Saint George of Catalonia over the dragon. Personally, I got the feeling that the dragon, along with various fantastic creatures like the elves, were living somewhere inside, and perhaps they were the ones who inspired Antonio to build them a fabulous dwelling like this (I'm kidding, of course)). But if you look closely, some balconies resemble some kind of face with glowing eyes, the partitions and railings of other balconies really resemble bones, the mosaic covering of the facade is like water flowing on the ground, and those present here and there are round pebbles associated with soap bubbles in my mind. The roof, in places decorated with tiles similar to the scales of the dragon , and the whole house differs from the others in its undulating outline (both outside and inside). There is an illusion of movement - here he is about to rise and come to life... the impression is reinforced when various lighting effects are added to the overall, already fantasmic picture. In order to feel the final euphoria of "staying in a dream" - I advise (despite the very biting price of a ticket), to visit inside.Review of: Casa BatllóVisited October 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 2, 2025
- Greta964Pordenone, Italy1,875 contributionsSpectacular Casa Batlló is a masterpiece of Catalan modernism and a journey into the imagination of Antoni Gaudí. Its maritime and dreamlike facade, with sinuous shapes and vibrant colors, is a celebration of light, nature and fantasy. Every detail, from bone columns to balconies in the shape of masks, tells stories inspired by the legend of Saint George and the marine world. The interior is equally extraordinary, with spaces that combine aesthetics and functionality: a central courtyard that distributes light and air, a staircase that evokes the spine of an animal, and a roof that simulates the back of a dragon with polychrome fireplaces. Every element, from the tiles to the ergonomic handrails, is cared for in every detail. Casa Batlló is a total work of art, where beauty and functionality come together in a unique experience. A place not to be missed for those who love Gaudí’s art, architecture and creative genius. Veryella also the projection into the cube. In the terrace there is a bar that we did not use and so I can not make a review. I'm sorry I didn't also buy the ticket for the private rooms, but the cost is really excessive. It starts from 35 euros per person (online price, on the spot it costs more and anyway I recommend you buy it first, because it is always full), and going up, depends on the time, eg in the evening it costs more and depends on whether you want to see everything or not. A big flaw and that they let too many people in together. Outside the house there are lines waiting to enter according to the time. - Massimo Tassan DinGenoa, Italy1,796 contributionsAnother must-see experience in Barcelona is a visit to Gaudi's umpteenth work: Casa Batllò Booked tickets well in advance and chose the Silver visit. The audio guide is very useful throughout the journey inside the house that gives moments of great beauty. There are many things to observe and admire even if the crowd does not allow you to make too long stops. Wonderful immersive light play before release To do!Review of: Casa BatllóVisited April 2025Traveled with familyWritten April 22, 2025
- Halil İbrahimIzmir, Türkiye89 contributionsThe building is a masterpiece of Modernist architecture and truly showcases the creativity and innovative spirit of Gaudi. From the undulating façade to the whimsical details, every aspect of the building is a feast for the eyes.I highly recommend visiting Casa Batllo for its architectural significance, but I must mention that the ticket price is a bit steep. Nonetheless, the visit is well worth it for those who appreciate great architecture and are willing to invest in the experience.Review of: Casa BatllóVisited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 6, 2024
- aldabra007Trieste, Italy2,660 contributionsNot to be missed. Fantastic house that looks like something out of a storybook. Once inside there is no time limit and even with the basic ticket you see enough, including the final footage where it was a more modern area that disfigures close to the original architecture. Every detail is taken care of and thought out in a rational and original way. You can take the photo on the small terrace at the top (€14) or visit it and do not buy the photo. This is a visit to be made. You can criticize the price of admission, not the beauty of a unique monument.Review of: Casa BatllóVisited June 2025Traveled with familyWritten July 11, 2025
- stellina1936Long Island, New York1,573 contributionsVery well worth a visit. The architecture is amazing; it truly is a Gaudi masterpiece. We went in April and there were heavy crowds; I can't imagine this place in full summer. You must reserve ahead of time; we waited about 20 mins or so to get in. We toured on our own; you are given an audio guide to follow as you enter each room. The terrace was beautiful also.Review of: Casa BatllóVisited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 18, 2025
- Jean HLimerick, Ireland171 contributionsThis is a very unusual house and worth visiting. We had the basic ticket which was €35 but prices go up closer to the time slot. Overall worth a visit but they should set a limit on the number of visitors allowed in at a time.Review of: Casa BatllóVisited April 2025Traveled with friendsWritten April 18, 2025

This UNESCO World Heritage site is perfect for all ages. Colorful, playful, and filled with information about the world-renowned architect and creative Antoni Gaudi, the craftsmanship is extraordinary. Every single detail planned by him, and carried out in detail by the greatest artisans of the time. This is a “not to be missed” experience in Barcelona.

A must do in Barcelona - Gaudi’s genius on display. It’s like being in a fairytale.
The rooftop views were amazing and the details in the house sublime from the door handles to the tiles.
We were fortunate to experience the magic night concert whilst the sun was setting.

Dramatic, beautiful, unique and well worth the admission price. I enjoy architecture and Casa Batllo didn't disappoint. All of the details, colors, rooftop area and general aesthetic were wonderful to experience. The audio tour was also easy to use and follow. If you can afford the price of entry, this is a worthwhile experience.

A wonderful place to visit. We booked the gold ticket, this gave audio and immersive video on a tablet (provided by Casa Batlló), the descriptions and video made the experience so much better than my previous visit in 2006. We also had our photo taken on the balcony of the top floor, the cost of the picture is reasonably priced. This visit is one of the most memorable trips I’ve taken.

We canceled the reservation two days after the event. It is unfortunate that this has happened because it says very little about the reliability of the organizers.

An elaborate and fascinating exterior is a taste of what is to come as you wander up and down and around various rooms of the Gaudi home. The themes of light and water as well as sea life are everywhere with ornate decor and furniture showcasing the magic of Antoni Gaudi. The audio guides are essential for each of the main rooms and their purpose and decorations to understand. Lots of interesting information delivered at a good pace. I did wish I had headphones as opposed to the handheld device.
The house is well managed with timed ticket entries and different tickets with options to see more. It can obviously be very busy so photos are difficult and some narrow areas too make it difficult to move about. Still it is a feast for the eyes and escape from the modern world outside. The outside courtyard is a highlight as is the staircase. A gold ticket offers more rooms to see. I only had the standard ticket which I felt did enough.
The tour ends with a light show in a mirrored room by a modern artist influencing Gaudi. This was a cool little extra before the gift shop, which had some nice things.

This was one of the best tours we did. I was in Barcelona over 10 years ago and this wasn’t in the radar at that time. Wow! We did the “gold” tour which is well worth it. Highly recommend!
